  1. I like the quote about the beginning and ending of life. It is a view that I have long felt would bring some sanity to the shrill voices on either side of the abortion debate. Once upon a time we thought life ended when the heart stopped, or, early still, when a person stopped breathing. Science (rightfully) extended that boundary and the legal system adapted. Once upon a time we thought life began when a baby emerged from the womb. So why is the legal system stalled at “once upon a time” on the other end of the spectrum?
